The Check Engine Light for Your Strings

Picture this...

Driving home late one night, you noticed your car's check engine light flicker on. Tempted to ignore it, you pull into a gas station out of caution. A quick inspection revealed a dangerously low oil level—something that could’ve led to engine failure within the next few miles. That small, glowing light saved you from a major breakdown in the middle of nowhere. Now imagine you're deep in a tough third, battling and grinding through grueling rallies. Just like with the car, a check engine light on your racquet—an innovative tension tracker—suddenly flashes, signaling your strings are on the verge of losing tension or even worse...snapping. You switch racquets before disaster strikes. Just like a warning in your car, that alert protects your performance, preventing a costly miss at the worst possible time.

Answers

You should have a stringer insert your LITT product when you get your racket restrung. Or, you can remove the trap door at the base of your racket grip (the racket butt cap) and snap the LITT device into that spot. IMPORTANT: Make sure you have a LITT adaptor that is specific to your racket brand. Example: Head LITT but caps do not fit Wilson butt caps, so make sure that you buy the version of the butt cap that fits your racket.

If your LITT product pops out for any reason while playing you can simply pop the cap back in the butt of the racket as you would with a typical racket butt cap. If you have any difficulties, a stringer can help you with this.

You need to have the correct adaptor for each type of racket. Each LITT adaptor is unique to each racket brand. So make sure you buy the current LITT adaptor that coincides with your racket brand.

LITT is a highly advanced vibration detector / monitor which has exclusive firmware that is able to measure the impact of vibration when the ball makes contact with your strings. It measures the amount of vibration that is going from the racket handle to a person’s wrist, arm, elbow and shoulder. As your strings age, vibration increases and becomes more powerful on your wrist and arm. LITT measures this increase in vibration.

Dampeners reduce string vibration which mainly just changes the sound produced when you hit a ball. They also make it more difficult for your RTT to measure the vibration and they
slightly change the frequency. If you use a dampener then make sure to use it all the time
otherwise the RTT may become confused by the changing vibration frequency. Also, when a
string breaks or when you re-string the racket, the RTT may not detect the change as quickly
as it would without a dampener.

When you take your racket to the stringer to get your strings replaced ask your stringer to reset LITT. If the stringer is not familiar with LITT follow these steps to reset the device:

  1. Hold the LITT logo button down for 3 seconds

  2. Take your finger off

  3. Hold the LITT logo button down again for 3 seconds

  4. Wait for the logo to light up red and then transition to orange, and then to green. This indicates that the LITT device is reset and ready to go.

Yes. LITT products take vibration readings to calibrate the health of your strings. When you play tennis for the first time after implementing LITT in your racket LITT creates a baseline for vibration based on hitting that day, so if you put a LITT product in a racket with dead or used strings it will not be able to calibrate and will be working off of an incorrect baseline.

Yes.

The battery for a LITT product should last one year to 14 months depending on how many times your press the light indicator button to check your string health. Under normal use and normal checking of your racket it should last a year depending on how often you press the button.
